Ayurvedic Asana: Weaving the Elements of Nature into Practice

This 2 hour workshop is offered as part of the YogaKula Yoga Teacher Training to support emerging teachers and practitioners integrate Ayurvedic Wisdom into yoga classes. It is open to the public and includes 1hr discussion followed by a 1hr practice integrating the philosophy into asana.

Explore the therapeutic principles of Ayurveda in your yoga asana practice. Ayurveda is the Ancient mind-body science of life, longevity and balance. Ayurvedic asana addresses the unique needs of the individual and aligns with the energetics of the season. Discover how to integrate the 5 elements of Nature through meditation, pranayama and asana to cultivate greater ease (sukham) and strength (sthira) in practice.

This workshop is part discussion & part integration through a 60-minute guided yoga practice.

We will explore:

  • An introduction to Ayurveda

  • Overview of the 3 Doshas

  • Prakriti - your natural constitution & Vikruti - imbalances in mind & body

  • 5 element theory & how to apply it to asana

  • Subtle energetics of an asana practice & 5 Vayus

  • Specific breathwork, mantra, mudra and poses to strengthen each element

This workshop is open to all levels and offers support for Yoga Teachers looking to integrate Ayurvedic wisdom in sequencing and practice.
