Journey of the Self - Aligning through Compass Pose
Enjoy a vinyasa flow to re-align with your self. This practice is inspired by the teaching from The Bhagavad Gita: “Yoga is the journey of the self, through the self, to the self.” We live in a world that often dictates how we 'should' be. Often unconsciously, the ego responds to the pressures and expectations by attaching to certain identities and constructs to get its needs met. And sometimes it can be exhausting as hell to keep up the mask of what feels inauthentic to you. Yoga is the practice of burning away the layers of indoctrinated self / false self / or illusory self, to reveal what is beneath it all at the heart. In working towards compass pose, this practice is all about re-attuning to your true North.
Suggested props: 2 blocks and a strap, especially if your hamstrings feel tight.
What to expect: Flow through hip postures and hamstring opening. There will be plenty of side bending and twisting, all in an effort to prepare for the deep pose - Compass. Working towards: Yantrasana - Compass pose, with an option to play with the arm balance 8 Angle Pose - Astavakrasana.
Filmed in the Dragoon Mountains, Cochise Stronghold, Arizona.
